i have clays brandnew but i can't work with them because the clay is so hard. How can i fix that???

I usually just work with the clay to make it softer. They say the body heat from your hands help make it softer and easier to work with, and a warmer room temperature can help too. Also, craft stores sell products specifically made for clay softening, but some people like to use olive oil or baby oil. I hope it works out!
